In a county with nearly three-quarters farmland, long, scenic drives are a favorite among locals and visitors. One of the key attractions? Our covered bridges.

Preble County is “Covered” with Covered Bridges

Between 1829 and 1896, Preble County was home to 29 covered bridges. Today, eight are still standing, six of which are still in their original locations. Ohio’s oldest covered bridge, and the United States’ second-oldest double-lane covered bridge, the Roberts Bridge, built in 1829, is situated next to Crystal Lake in Eaton.

Unfortunately, the bridge was vandalized by arsonists in 1986. However, because of its strong truss, it did not collapse and could be restored and relocated from its original location.

These unique historical landmarks bring visitors in from all over the world and serve as landmarks for history buffs of all kinds. Interested in learning more about the attractions in Preble County? Visit our website.
