What Does ‘ACT Work Ready Community’ Mean?
What does Preble County’s status as an ACT Work Ready Community mean for you? The short answer: We have the data to show you exactly how you can fill your jobs.
By achieving certified ACT Work Ready Community status, we are demonstrating we have a robust workforce development effort aligned with your economic development needs. From the same ACT that administers the college admissions test, the WorkKeys assessment allows quantification of the skill sets of our labor force. The subsequently awarded ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) closes the skills gap by giving us the ability to match skills directly to job titles.
Once a community is certified, that is just the beginning. The next step is to build upon this foundation and further strengthen our workforce development efforts by maintaining the ACT Work Ready Community efforts. Preble County has held our certification since 2016.
Thirty-eight businesses in Preble County support and recognize the value of an NCRC because it gives a more nuanced insight into an individual’s skills beyond just the degree achieved. It identifies proficiency in essential foundational skills required for virtually any job: reading for information, applied math, and locating information. An NCRC also indicates the transferability of skill sets and the ability to learn.
